Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico della Sicilia

Science and Technology Park of Sicily (STPS) is a no profit joint stock Consortium, leaded by Regione Sicilia, aimed at networking SME, research centers, universities, associations and local agencies. Its action involves research, innovation and technological transfer, high education and training, attraction of investments. Thanks to its laboratories, equipped for genomic analysis, molecular diagnosis of plant diseases, microbiology and agrofood technologies, chemical, spectrometric and diffractometric analysis, STPS provides innovative services of analysis and testing according to SME's needs. The research area deals with bacteria and yeasts involved in green and white biotechnologies, as shown by five patents of invention and many advanced agro technologies. In cooperation with regional SMEs, research centers and universities STPS is dealing with the production of poly-hydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and bio-surfactants through bacterial conversion of waste materials and by-products.
